2021 Interior Painting Trends to Watch

As we move into a new year, we always like to start thinking about what trends we will expect to see in the next 365 days. What will be the new upcoming option for first time homeowners, home sellers, and everything in between? Since 2020 has been one for the ages for everyone, one thing is clear: people are ready to upgrade their living spaces to fit the new and specific lifestyle needs of the future.

Here are a few trends and recommendations we are making for your 2021 interior decorating and painting.

Making Room for the Home Office

According to a Stanford study from June of 2020, at least 42% of US workers are now doing their jobs full time from home. We also know that many public school and university students are now working from their living room, bedroom, or kitchen table these days as well.

This has led many to spend a lot more time looking around at the environment they are working in. Whether someone has a designated office, work nook, or just a living room couch, almost all are realizing the comforts of the office that they now miss. Now, we know some of those cannot be fixed by a coat of paint, like in-person meetings, water cooler conversations, class presentations, and more.

But in the meantime, we recommend making the most out of the situation by designating your work space from your living space. You can do this by choosing one living room chair that you will only dedicate to your working hours. Or, you can move your desk into an empty closet so you can “close the doors” (or curtains) on your work each day.

We also recommend reconsidering your paint color for your workspace. While many home trends lately have been many different shades of gray, we recommend dedicating your work space to a brighter and more invigorating color. While gray may work for some minds, most of us experience a psychological mood boost or burst of creativity when we see a bright, warm and inviting color. Maybe consider a raspberry, yellow, or forest green on your next home office upgrade.

One tip from U.S. Pro paint expert, Frank Weaver, has: “Remember, when you put paint on the wall, you’re most likely going to live with it for a while. So take the time to think about your choice and ask your painter for advice or insight if you are unsure.”

Or, even go for a textured wallpaper! And speaking of wallpaper…

Add Texture to Your Ceiling

For the upcoming year, we are anticipating a lot more calls for wallpapered ceilings.

Yes, you heard us right – wallpapered ceilings! Wallpaper has been making a comeback in recent years due to its versatility and increased “green” options for the more conscious buyer.

By adding a complementary texture to your ceiling, you can add an elongating effect to the room, making you feel like your area is more spacious and less claustrophobic. And with as much time as we all are spending at home these days, this is an excellent plus to any living space!

But, if you thought wallpapering your walls on your own sounded difficult, we definitely recommend bringing in the experts for wallpapering your ceiling. You will ensure clean lines, zero air bubbles, and a perfect final product for staring up at when you are laying on your couch for another weekend in a row.

Bringing Outdoors Indoors

Finally, since we are all spending a lot more time at home, and even more increased time as we move into colder months, there is also a trend to create a more organic area inside your living space.

Through adding copious amounts of houseplants, adding a new furry friend to the family, and repainting with earthy greens, blues, and browns, people are finding any way possible to bring the relaxation of nature into their homes.

Function + Relaxation

The one thing all three of these interior designs have in common: reevaluating and creating an at-home space that is functional and an oasis all at the same time. While some major renovations, animal adoptions, or trying to keep plants alive may have to wait, a repainting project could be done in a reasonable amount of time with a thoughtful budget.

And the best part? Winter is the best time to hire for that indoor painting project! Call U.S. Pro Painters today to get on the books for our 2020-2021 Winter schedule!
