Did you know that August is a great time to start scheduling your next interior paint job? While most people might not think of winter as the time to have your interior home or office painted, most painting companies would actually recommend the wintertime as opposed to other seasons.
Here are the top four reasons winter is the best time to schedule your next paint job.
- Availability. In most areas, painters only have a few months a year to work outdoors. So, during the months when the weather is nice, most painters will be focusing their time on exterior jobs. Because of this, trying to get an appointment during the spring, summer or fall for an interior paint job might be extremely difficult. But, during the winter months, painters’ sole focus is on interior work. With very little to no exterior jobs, their schedules are more flexible, giving you a much better chance of getting on their schedule.
- Pricing Advantages. Because of the public’s misconceptions about painting during the winter, most painting companies are normally a little slower during that time of the year. To keep their schedule full, and to encourage customers to schedule interior projects in the winter, painting companies often offer discounts for scheduling in the winter. Painting companies also offer discounts for booking well in advance. So, booking now for a winter job could save you money, depending on the company you choose to partner with.
- Drying Times. Did you know that humidity can cause paint to dry more slowly? Paint actually dries faster in cooler weather because of the reduced humidity that comes with the cold, dry air. The faster the paint dries, the less chance you have of a family member or pet accidentally touching the paint and smudging the wall. Slow drying also increases the time to finish a project, which could make the job more expensive. Yet another reason why winter jobs could be more cost effective.
- Ready for Spring. Most people put their homes on the market in the spring or summer. According to Realtor.com, the week of March 31 to April 6 is the best time to put a home on the market. On their website, they share a report stating that homes listed during that week were listed for an average of 6 percent more than at the beginning of the year, totaling an extra average $17,000.
Experts also agree that painting your home before selling it will help you get a higher selling price. Dan DiClerico, a smart home expert for HomeAdvisor,, says painting your home before putting it on the market can be critical in selling it faster and for a better price.
“While it varies a lot, we estimate that fresh paint adds 1% to 3% to a home’s final sale price,” DiClerico said in a USA Today article. “On a $300,000 home, that means you could be getting $3,000 to as much as $9,000 more.”
